Basic Knowledge of Energy-efficient LED Bulb Lighting

Basic Knowledge of Energy-efficient LED Bulb Lighting

1. What is LED and how do energy-efficient LED bulbs work?

LED stands for light emitting diode. The luminous efficiency of LED lighting products is 90% higher than that of incandescent bulbs. How do they work? Electric current passes through a microchip, which illuminates a tiny light source we call an LED, and the result is visible light. To prevent performance problems, the heat generated by energy-efficient LED bulbs will be absorbed into the heat sink.

2. The life of energy-efficient LED bulbs lighting products

Compared with other light sources, such as incandescent lamps or compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), the definition of the service life of LED lighting products is different. LEDs usually do not "burn out" or malfunction.

On the contrary, energy-efficient LED bulbs will experience "lumen decay", in which the brightness of the LED will slowly dim over time. Unlike incandescent bulbs, the "life" of LED is determined based on a prediction of when the light output will drop by 30%.

3. How energy-efficient LED bulbs are used for lighting

LEDs are integrated into bulbs and lamps for general lighting applications. The small size of the LED provides unique design opportunities. Some energy-efficient LED bulbs solutions may be physically similar to familiar bulbs and better match the appearance of traditional bulbs.

Some LED lamps may have built-in LEDs as permanent light sources. There are also hybrid methods in which non-traditional "bulbs" or interchangeable light source formats are used and are specifically designed for unique luminaires. Energy-efficient LED bulbs provide huge opportunities for innovation in lighting form factors, and have a wider range of applications than traditional lighting technology.
